# Numbers and missing values

> Use display numbers, exact decimal values, and missing fields correctly.

Use the API's JSON numbers for display. When a supported financial field includes an exact decimal value, use that value for calculations that must preserve every digit.

A missing value is never a zero. Check whether the field is omitted, explicitly `null`, or marked unavailable in [trust metadata](/concepts/trust-metadata).

## Display precision

Most numbers are truncated toward zero, rather than rounded. For example, `97.9488` becomes `97.94`, and `-12.345` becomes `-12.34`.

| Values | Decimal places | Examples |
| - | - | - |
| Money | 2 | `pnl.total`, `pnl.realized`, `size_usd`, `total_volume`, `net_flow_usd`. |
| Wallet score | 2 | `score`. |
| Rates | 4 | `win_rate`, `daily_win_rate`. |
| Prices | 4 | `price`, `avg_price`, candle values `o`, `h`, `l`, `c`. |
| Trade review scores | 4 | `review_score`, `recorded_review_score`, and their deprecated `signal_score` aliases. |

Numbers inside `quant_metrics` retain their computed precision. Truncated values can differ from their source by less than 1 unit of the last displayed decimal place; adding many of them can accumulate a difference.

## Exact decimal values

[Trader](/api-reference/endpoint/get-trader) can return `pnl.exact.realized` and `stats.exact.total_volume`. [Positions](/api-reference/endpoint/get-positions) can return an `exact` object for each valued position.

Each exact value has this shape:

```json theme={null}
{
  "value": "-1882.161234",
  "unit": "USD",
  "scale": 6,
  "basis": "trader_trading_pnl.net_realized_pnl"
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `value` | The exact decimal, encoded as text. Parse it with a decimal type. |
| `unit` | What it measures: `USD`, `shares`, or `USD/share`. |
| `scale` | The source's number of decimal places. |
| `basis` | The source field or calculation behind the value. |

The regular numeric field remains available for display. Do not reconstruct an exact value from it; use the decimal string directly.

An exact block or individual value is omitted when its source cannot be verified. Exact position `avg_price` is calculated from exact cost and shares, and is omitted when that calculation is unavailable.

[Counterparty executions](/api-reference/endpoint/get-large-trade-counterparty-executions) and [counterparty makers](/api-reference/endpoint/get-large-trade-counterparty-makers) also return `filled_shares` and `filled_usdc` as decimal strings. Parse these with a decimal type too.

## Integers

| Field | Where it appears |
| - | - |
| `markets_traded` | Trader statistics, leaderboard entries, market holders, and pick holders. |
| `rank` | Traders, trending wallets, pre-game sides, and observations. |
| `whale_trade_count` | Market flow and sharp money flow. |
| `event_leg_count` | Large positions. |
| `suspicion_score` | Large trades. The same field on a suspicious-trade flag is a decimal. |

## Pick display strings

[Pick of the Day](/api-reference/endpoint/get-pick-of-the-day) and its [archive](/api-reference/endpoint/get-pick-of-the-day-archive) include formatted strings beside their numeric values. Display the string; use the number when calculating.

| Numeric value | Display field | Example |
| - | - | - |
| `backed_price` | `odds_display` | `"62.0c"`, with 1 decimal place in cents. |
| `return_usd` | `payout_display` | `"$1,612.90"`, including the stake. |
| `return_usd` | `profit_display` | `"+$612.90"`, after subtracting the stake. |
| `outcome` | `outcome_display` | `"Win"`, `"Loss"`, `"Void"`, or `"Pending"`. |
| `unit_score` | `unit_score_display` | `"+1.24u"`, in stake units. |
| `clv_pct` | `clv_display` | A signed percentage. |

Archive rows and days have their own display strings. The archive's `hit_rate` object also includes:

| Numeric field | Display field | Format |
| - | - | - |
| `net_profit_usd` | `net_profit_display` | Signed whole dollars, such as `"+$1,000"`. |
| `roi_pct` | `roi_display` | A signed percentage with 1 decimal place. |
| `pct` | `win_rate_display` | An unsigned percentage with 1 decimal place. |
| `unit_score` | `unit_score_display` | Signed stake units with 2 decimal places. |
| `clv_avg_pct` | `clv_avg_display` | A signed percentage. |
| `clv_avg_pp` | `clv_avg_pp_display` | Signed percentage points, such as `"+0.4 pp"`. |
| `clv_coverage_pct` | `clv_coverage_display` | The percentage of applicable picks with a closing-line measurement. |

`net_profit_display` and `roi_display` round before adding the sign. A result that rounds to zero therefore displays `"+$0"` or `"+0.0%"`, without negative zero.

## Handle missing values

| Case | Meaning and action |
| - | - |
| Omitted `grade`, `score`, `streak_tier`, `strategy_type`, or a P\&L or statistics value | No value is available. Show an unavailable state. |
| Omitted `pnl.realized` | The verified native realized-P\&L source is unavailable. Do not substitute `pnl.total`, which includes open positions. |
| `null` inside `quant_metrics` | The wallet has too little history for that measure. Keep it separate from zero. |
| `null` trade fields such as `recorded_review_score`, `recorded_signal_score`, `suspicion_score`, `outcome`, or `token_id` | The field is present but has no value. |
| `unavailable` or `partial` trust metadata | The value cannot be used as a complete result. Do not replace it with zero or an empty collection. |

## Limits

Display precision does not establish source accuracy. Exact decimal fields preserve their source digits; they do not fill gaps in missing data.
